Description:
Carbink has a unique typing, massive defenses and an interesting movepool. So why isn't it more used? Well simply put, it's predictable, along with lack of reliable recovery. But also, people don't realize just how much Carbink can do. Luckily, Carbink has more than enough tools to function in NU. With everything from screens to Calm Mind, this diamond encrusted Pokemon will not disappoint.
Set #1: Calm Mind
Carbink @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Power Gem
- Substitute / Rest
Set Description:
It's a pretty simple set. Thanks to Carbink's massive defenses, he'll be practically impenetrable. Use Calm Mind then attack with either one of your STAB moves. Moonblast will maim just about anything. Power Gem is also really good for some of those Pokemon that would otherwise annoy you. Unfortunately Carbink is still walled by Steel types regardless of what you do. The last slot is dependent on how confident you are in Carbink's survival skills. You could use Substitute to block status and stack Leftovers recovery. Or you could use Rest to heal status.
Set #2: Utility Screens
Carbink @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 126 Def / 4 SpA / 126 SpD
Modest Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Moonblast / Toxic
Set Description:
Set up rocks, set up screens, use Moonblast to try and mow down anything with Carbink's 1337 Special Attack (sarcasm), or you could just run Toxic and use a Defense / Special Defense boosting nature instead. Carbink would be complete Taunt bait then however.
Other Options:
You could run a physical set using Sharpen, but it would honestly take a lot more work than it would be worth. If it had gotten Swords Dance that might have been another story. Gyro Ball and Trick Room are also viable options thanks to Carbink's low speed.
