Description:
Hawlucha is an amazing Pokemon. With good stats, an amazing movepool, fantastic abilities and a unique typing, it has everything it needs to succeed. With a multitude of sets it could run, there seems to be no stopping our fighting avian friend. However there are some things that keep Hawlucha from being a top tier threat. It unfortunately has quite a few weaknesses, especially to the ever common Electric, Ice and Fairy types. Its Attack is lackluster and its defenses are a little lower than desired. If you can play around these flaws, you'll find that the sky's the limit with Hawlucha!
Set #1: Power Herb Sky Attack
Hawlucha @ Power Herb
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sky Attack
- Acrobatics
- Swords Dance
- Hi Jump Kick
Set Description:
The set works quite nicely, when you're ready for your speed boost. Use Sky Attack. It'll nail the opponent hard with a 140 BP move that also gets STAB (and has a 30% chance to flinch) and will activate Unburden (sending his speed to a ridiculous 726) and allowing Acrobatics to reach maximum power. Swords Dance is to boost your power even further, and Hi Jump Kick is a fantastic STAB move.
Other Options:
While there are many other options, most of them are outclassed by the above set. A Life Orb / Choice Band set is very viable however, as Hawlucha has just enough moves to pull it off. Stone Edge and X-Scissor are also great coverage options, even Poison Jab to nail those pesky faeries. Flying Press is Hawlucha's signature move and has some interesting niches, but for the most part it's not worth using. Since Hawlucha is fast and has access to Baton Pass, it can pass Agility, Bulk Up, Hone Claws or Swords Dance boosts to any Pokemon it wants to. Finally, having the ability to Taunt is a nice addition as well.
