Description:
In the battle of ultimate gimmicky Pokemon to use as Physical walls, I have two personal choices. Onix and Nosepass. Since I already gave Onix his time in the sun, I figured it's time to allow Nosepass his chance to shine. While Onix has 25 more base defense than Nosepass, Nosepass has 5 more HP and 45 more base defense, meaning that it can slightly tank on the Special side as well if the need arises. While this may be seen as a disadvantage, Nosepass is painfully slow, allowing it to be used on Trick Room teams. Thanks to Nosepass having an evolution, Nosepass can utilize Eviolite and wall things that Probopass could only dream of walling. Nosepass especially can tank fighting type attacks better than its Evolution thanks to only having a 2x weakness and not a 4x weakness. Not all is smell-free for our nosy friend however, as his HP is the same as Onix and this will let him down in multiple ways. If you can work around his weaknesses though, you'll find that he can be a fantastic team member.
Set #1: Utility
Nosepass @ Eviolite
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Rock Tomb / Pain Split / Torment
- Toxic / Pain Split / Torment
- Thunder Wave / Pain Split / Torment
Set Description:
The concept is similar to Onix, although Nosepass has to use things differently due to his stat spread. Switch in on a Physical mon, set up Rocks and then the rest is up to you. Rock Tomb allows Nosepass to do damage and reduce the opponent's speed, which can be useful for stopping a sweep. Toxic and Thunder Wave are for incapacitating an opponent. On any of those options you could run Pain Split instead to have a way to recover your health and slowly damage the opponent. You just have to decide which way is the best for you. Torment is also another option for limiting an opponent and can work wonderfully in tandem with Pain Split.
Other Options:
Nosepass has a fantastic offensive movepool but doesn't have the stats to abuse it unfortunately. He also gets access to Taunt but it's not that useful since Nosepass has such a low base speed (unlike Onix's base 70 which is at least usable). Gravity and Magic Coat are both niche options that could work as well.
