Description:
Unfezant is one poor case of a Pokemon. Cool design, decent stats with a notable increase to Attack this generation making it 115, and a semi-decent support movepool. Want to know why it's almost absent? Its offensive movepool is absolutely terrible. It doesn't get access to Brave Bird, Drill Peck, or any good Flying STAB. Aerial Ace, Fly, Pluck and Sky Attack are the only four moves in its movepool that get STAB other than the obvious use of Return for normal STAB. Along with this, Unfezant has a frustrating speed of 93, and no boosting moves to speak of outside an oddly placed Work Up. Don't fret, not all is bad for Unfezant. Unfezant has access to Night Slash, allowing it to make a nasty surprise for Pokemon who think they can just come in and set up on our pheasant friend. Along with this, Unfezant has access to some niche support moves such as Wish, Hypnosis and Taunt. All in all, if you can work past Unfezant's limitations, than that 115 base Attack stat won't let you down.
Set #1: Scope Lens
Unfezant @ Scope Lens
Ability: Super Luck
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Night Slash
- Aerial Ace / Return
- Steel Wing
- U-Turn
Set Description:
This is arguably Unfezant's best set. Since Unfezant has access to Super Luck and Night Slash, it only makes sense to want to boost the ratio even higher with Scope Lens. Unfezant is almost like a mini Absol in this regard. Aerial Ace is your STAB Flying move, although if you don't want to deal with its low base power you could always run Return instead. Steel Wing is to give a nasty surprise to Ice, Rock and Fairy Pokemon who feel they can get a free switch-in on Unfezant. U-Turn is for scouting and usually won't fail you. It'll help you keep up momentum.
Set #2: Wish
Unfezant @ Leftovers
Ability: Super Luck
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Wish
- Night Slash
- Taunt
- Roost / Return / Tailwind / Morning Sun
Set Description:
This is the best support set that Unfezant can muster, since Unfezant is fast and has a decent HP stat of 80, you can pass off semi-nice Wish HP restores to other members of your team. Night Slash takes advantage of your Super Luck ability and coverage wise is overall more useful so it's preferred over your STAB moves. Taunt is always useful. The last slot is dependent on your needs. Roost is for self-healing, while Return is in case of a need for a second attack. Tailwind can provide a much needed speed boost for your team. Morning Sun is useful for if you're using this on a Sun team, otherwise don't use it.
Other Options:
A Work Up set could potentially work due to having access to Heat Wave, but most of the time it won't do you that much good since you're better off firing off Attacks from that base 115 Attack stat without trying to set up. Quick Attack is STAB priority which could be useful, but it simply isn't that good. Hypnosis would be more useful if Unfezant got access to Hone Claws but sadly it doesn't. That's what just kills Unfezant, no access to anything. Such a bare bones Pokemon in terms of an offensive movepool.
