    Fire Type Mono Team
The ins and outs of running the perfect team

Grab your torch, light that cigar, and harness your inner arsonist. It's time to tackle one of the strongest types in the game, Fire Type. Fire is much less defensive than all of the other types. There ain't no pussy-footing in this game. It's all about attack, attack, and attack. You want to send in that suicide bird Talonflame? You go right ahead. I assure you'll take down at least one Pokemon. How about that spooky light fixture Chandelure? Go for it! The enemy team probably isn't ready for a STAB Shadow Ball. And just wait until you Mega Evolve that Charizard of yours. Can you say sweep? Your opponent can! So you want to learn how to burn your opponent to ashes? Well get ready, because we're about to burn this mother-!

    Pros
    1. Access to Drought.
    2. Access to 12 of the 17 other types, though some more than others.
    3. Immunity to Burn
    4. Extremely powerful offensive capabilities.

    Cons
    1. Weakness to 3 types, 2 of them very common.
    2. No access to Spikes or Toxic Spikes at all.
    3. Weak to Stealth Rocks and Spikes.
    4. Fire teams tend to be more offensive than defensive.

    Attack pros and cons

    Super effective against
    Grass, Ice, Bug, Steel

    Resisted by
    Fire, Water, Rock, Dragon

    Defense pros and cons

    Weak to
    Water, Ground, Rock

    Resistant to
Fire, Grass, Ice, Bug, Steel, Fairy

    Overall Description

Overall, Fire Type is probably one of the most threatening types, if not the most threatening. Though it may not have very many surprises, this type doesn't need to be surprising to work. Flare Blitz, Fire Blast, Flamethrower, Fire Punch. It doesn't matter if it's Special or Physical, this type has so much power at its disposal. And with access to Morning Sun and Sunny Day, Fire Type Pokemon can heal themselves and reduce damage from Water Type. You can take a break from your sweep to set up a Swords Dance or Nasty Plot, or just continue to plow through with little respect for your opponent. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's move on to the next step.

    Detailed Description

The problem with Fire Type is the poor defensive options. Most Fire Type teams have no choice but to be hyper offensive due to this. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing as you can force your opponent to make some bad plays. Resistant to a whopping 6 types and strong against 4, it's no wonder Fire Type is as useful as it is. It does become an issue when you have to deal with entry hazards, recoil damage, or inaccurate attacks. To make matters worse, while there are a few specially defensive walls you can rely on, such as Ninetales and Delphox, there is a surprising lack of defensive walls. And by that I mean THERE'S ONLY ONE! That honor goes to Torkoal. And, oh you'll love this one... he is also one of the only Fire Type Pokemon with access to Stealth Rock and the only... I repeat, ONLY Fire Type Pokemon with access to Rapid Spin. So now you're probably feeling the pressure. There's no doubt that Fire Type is powerful, but can it work? Let us take a look.

    Extinguishing the Flames

Ya know, as much as you would like to think, this is not the most threatening type for Fire Type Pokemon. Yes some Pokemon can be a huge threat for Fire Types such as Azumarill and Rotom-Wash, but on the whole there isn't a whole lot that Water Type can do when Sunny Day is active. Sunny Day not only powers up Fire Type attacks, but it also powers down Water Type attacks. Even though Mega Charizard X and Reshiram are the only two Pokemon that take neutral damage from Water Type attacks, a Drought Ninetales and Torkoal can take Scalds and Waterfalls respectively. You've no need to worry about this type unless they get a Rain Dance up. But as long as you keep Ninetales or your Sunny Day user alive, that should never be a problem. Not to mention Charizard and Houndoom can learn Solar Beam. And with the one turn charge in Sunny Day, Water Types should never become an issue.

    Quaking in Fear

This is where the true threats start to come in. Now everything I said in the above is still true, with single turn Solar Beams and Ground Type Pokemon don't even resist Fire Type attacks. So where does the issue arise? Well it's less of an attacking issue, and more of a stalling one. You see many Ground Type Pokemon are defensive and can take several attacks before dishing out massive damage. Charizard and Talonflame are simply a must when dealing with this Type, as well as Rotom-Heat and Volcarona. But when facing Excadrills and Garchomps, you'll start to see why this type is way more of a threat than Water. Earthquakes and Spikes for days. If you aren't totally prepared for this type, you could even get swept by a Hippowdon. A dumb Hippo can wreck your monstrously powerful team! And with yet another weather to combat against, it just makes your job all the more difficult. But remain calm and follow the same strategy with Water Type. I assure you, there isn't a whole lot several Solar Beams and a Flare Blitz can't solve. However...

    Getting Stoned

... neither of those types are even close to the level of threatening that Rock Type Pokemon are. Oh, so you like your Charizard? Well, you'd better Rapid Spin away those Stealth Rocks, or he'll be starting at half his fucking health. So you're fond of that Talonflame? One Rock Slide aaaaaaaaaaaand it's done. And don't even THINK about sending in that Volcarona. Those are three incredible Fire Type Pokemon I listed off, and all of them are nothing to Rock Type attacks. Against a Terrakion and Tyranitar, there's almost no hope. Thank god there are so many Fire/Fighting Pokemon, otherwise there'd be almost no hope. When Stealth Rocks are active, your number one priority is spinning them away with Torkoal, and even he isn't immune to the damage they'll deal. 25% of his health is gone when you send him in. It is a blessing that Rock Type Pokemon are not as common in the meta game right now. Yet again, the single turn Solar Beam is incredible when dealing with this type, and hey, Camerupt and Heatran are also decent choices when up against Rock Type Pokemon. But the real problem is that most Rock Type Pokemon can learn Earthquake as well. This is where you have to focus all of your attacks at. If you let a Rock Type Pokemon live until the end, you might end up getting swept after all.

    Notable Members

I hope that I've discouraged you from making a Fire Type Mono if you were just hoping to get in and wreck shit. And I hope that I've instead encouraged you to actually put thought into the creation of this team. With some great options to choose, let's get right to it with some Pokemon who would love to be on your team.

    1. Torkoal - Access to Stealth Rock, Rapid Spin, and an incredible Defense stat.
    2. Ninetales - Access to Drought, Solar Beam, and good overall stats.
    3. Rotom-Heat - Immune to Ground Type Attacks, with a high speed and Sp. Attack.
    4. Arcanine - Access to Morning Sun, Extreme Speed, and some good overall stats.
    5. Volcarona - Resists 1 of Fire Type's 3 weaknesses with access to Morning Sun and Quiver Dance.
    6. Chandelure - Incredible Sp. Attack stat with access to Energy Ball and a large variety of moves.
    7. Charizard - Very good stats all around and access to two Mega Evolutions (X resists 1 of Fire Type's 3 weaknesses and Y has access to Drought.)
    8. Infernape - Resists 1 of Fire Type's 3 weaknesses, access to Mach Punch and Stealth Rock with very high Attack and Sp. Attack stats.
    9. Emboar - Resists 1 of Fire Type's 3 weaknesses, with good HP and a high Attack stat.
    10. Talonflame - Immune to Ground Type attacks with access to Gale Wings and Brave Bird.
    11. Houndoom - Access to Solar Beam with a high Sp. Attack and Speed stats and a Mega Evolution.
    12. Magmortar - Access to Thunderbolt with a high Sp. Attack stat and a large movepool.
    13. Camerupt - Resists 1 of Fire Type's 3 weaknesses with access to Stealth Rock and Earthquake.
    14. Darmanitan - Access to Sheer Force and an incredible Attack Stat.
    15. Delphox - Very high Sp. Attack and Sp. Defense stats with a large movepool.

    Final Thoughts

Allow me to quote Senator Palpatine on this one; "POWER! UNLIMITED POWER!" That appropriately sums up how you will feel when playing with a Fire Mono Team. But on a serious note, it doesn't feel like a completely brainless type now does it? Now that you understand the strengths and weaknesses and how they work and why they work, you should be much more confident in your approach to team build. After all, even with its limited defense options, fire's more about dealing damage than taking it, right? I've rattled off enough. You'd best get started on that team of yours.

There is no such thing as a bad Pokemon, only a Pokemon with undiscovered potential.

This is a really good Mono-Fire analysis (^_^)b

Only thing i would add might be Typhlosion and Pyroar as viable options

but other than that keep up the good work  Smile

Simply because I did not list them in the notable members, does not mean that they are not viable. I only list 15 Pokemon so that it leaves creativity for others when constructing the team. I list the best possible options, but there is no such thing as a bad Pokemon.

I'm glad you like my guide. Wink
