Blizzard of Darkness
An OU Team
Created by DarkEnvy
Team Description:
You think weather is dead? I say the boring weathers are dead, hail is still alive and kicking. Why? The Pokemon used on hail teams are extremely unpredictable, and only a few ever see the light of OU. However, they all function extremely well inside OU and more often than not can prove to be more than the opposing team can handle.

Froslass – The Trickster of the Damned
Role: Utility / ParaPseudoDisable / Team Crippler
Froslass (F) @ Focus Sash
Shiny: Yes
Trait: Cursed Body
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Spikes
- Destiny Bond
- Shadow Ball
- Thunder Wave
Description:
Froslass is a fantastic, underutilized Pokemon that has somehow made its way to the bottom of NU, receiving even less usage than REGIGIGAS and KRICKETUNE! It’s not that those Pokemon aren’t cool, it’s just… Froslass can do so much more. Froslass has received nothing but good fortune this generation, including the loss of permanent weather (no more Sun teams running about in the same manner as Generation Five), the buff to Ghost types (being able to hit Steel types neutrally), and the general slowdown of OU thanks to Talonflame (people being more reliant on slower, more powerful Pokemon since priority Brave Bird annoys the piss out of everyone.) What I often do with Froslass is predict an opponent’s move (such as when they Protect or I know they’re going to kill me, I set up Spikes / Destiny Bond respectively. Thunder Wave and Shadow Ball have their own specific uses. The point of this Froslass is to play mind games in conjunction with her Cursed Body ability, which (more often than not), disables whatever move the opponent attacks you with. Using these mind games, Froslass can nail just about anything. Take a look at how my Froslass successfully nailed a Deoxys-A and a Mega Blaziken, all while being at just 1% health.
As you can see, Froslass’s mind games can be catastrophic to an opponent. Along with this, the usage of Cursed Body and Thunder Wave in tandem can provide for devastating results. Destiny Bond insights the fear while I take down the opponent and then possible set up hazards afterword. It’s a game of chance and it’s one that Froslass is incredibly damn good at, especially thanks to its more than fantastic speed, allowing it to outpace the majority of the now slowed-down OU and even some of its faster threats.
Specific OU Pokemon that Froslass Counters / Checks:
Anything that it can out-predict, Froslass isn’t meant to counter any specific Pokemon on this team. It can handle anything given the right circumstances. It’s mostly meant to be a powerful utility Pokemon with some nasty side effects for your opponent.
Abomasnow – The Master of the Blizzard
Role: Weather Starter / Offensive Tank
Abomasnow (M) @ Abomasite
Shiny: Yes
Trait: Snow Warning
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Focus Blast
- Giga Drain
- Protect
- Blizzard
Description:
Mega Abomasnow proves that you don’t need speed in order to succeed in OU. Having fantastic bulk and key resistances to multiple common types is an absolute boon, along with vastly improved offensive capabilities and great offensive STAB. Abomasnow is here to fire away powerful STAB Blizzards with 100% accuracy coming off a 396 Special Attack with hail damage chipping away at your enemies, Giga Drain to help restore your HP and Focus Blast for extra coverage. Using Protect can bide time for hail damage and to scout as well. People will more often than not underestimate just how bulky Abomasnow really is, and thus they’ll just launch careless neutral attacks or even weak non STAB super effective attacks expecting a kill. This is where the mind games come in once again. Along with this, Talonflame cannot switch into a Blizzard without running the risk (at worst a 90% risk) of getting OHKO’d by Blizzard (most of the time Hail will finish it off if it doesn’t OHKO.) Mega Abomasnow’s bulk and scouting abilities allow it to successfully wear down and predict your opponent’s every move.
Specific OU Pokemon that Abomasnow Counters / Checks:
Rotom-W, Greninja, Venusaur, Dragonite, Garchomp, Ferrothorn, Thundurus, Azumarill, Gliscor, Latios, Mandibuzz, Vaporeon, Cloyster, Donphan, Mamoswine, and Keldeo.
Kyurem-B – The Electrified Ice Claw
Role: Offensive Scarfed Pokemon
Kyurem-B @ Choice Scarf
Shiny: Yes
Trait: Teravolt
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Lonely Nature (+Atk, -Def)
- Fusion Bolt
- Dragon Claw
- Iron Head
- Blizzard
Description:
Remember when this bad boy went to UU for a little while? He’s back and the only Pokemon on this team that isn’t allowed into a lower tier than OU. You may have thought the faeries would have put a massive dent in this guy’s viability, but you couldn’t be more wrong. Kyurem-B has one tool that puts an end to all that, Iron Head. Combined with Fusion Bolt and Dragon Claw, Kyurem-B can nail a large majority of the tier for major damage. Both his Attack and his Speed come close to 500 and 450 respectively thanks to the EVs and the Choice Scarf. People often expect a Kyurem-B to be a slow, substitute abuser. This set a lot of the times banks on that naivety. The last slot is Blizzard, a nasty surprise for Physical walls who would like to come in and ruin Kyurem-B’s day. Thanks to Kyurem-B’s secondary Ice typing giving it STAB, Abomasnow’s permanent hail making it 100% accurate, and Kyurem-B’s acceptable base Special Attack, Blizzard is a far better item to abuse than most others in its movepool.
Specific OU Pokemon that Kyurem-B Counters / Checks:
Mega Charizard X, Mega Charizard Y, Rotom-W, Greninja, Dragonite, Tyranitar, Garchomp, Skarmory, Thundurus, Azumarill, Gyarados, Latios, Clefable, Togekiss, Sylveon, Gardevoir, and Keldeo.
Omastar – The Slush Rush
Role: Set Up Sweeper
Omastar (M) @ Life Orb
Shiny: Yes
Trait: Shell Armor
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Shell Smash
- Surf
- Earth Power
- Ice Beam
Description:
You know how Cloyster tends to be the most commonly used Shell Smash abuser? Throw away all your conceptions about it being the best, Omastar would like to step up to the plate. While Cloyster may have the Skill Link ability and better Defense on his side, Omastar has vastly better Special Attack, a much better Special movepool, better defensive typing and arguably a better stat spread in general. These EVs allow Omastar to reach over 700 Special Attack with just one SS boost! His Speed will reach a lofty 418 as well, out-speeding every non-scarfed Pokemon in OU bar Deoxys-S. His nifty Defense and the Life Orb boost allow him to take hits and dish damage out in ways that no other Pokemon can achieve at the same level. As a bonus, he resists both of Talonflame’s STAB moves. Shell Armor allows Omastar to avoid any nasty critical hits as well.
Specific OU Pokemon that Omastar Counters / Checks:
Aegislash, Talonflame, Mega Charizard X, Charizard Y, Scizor, Heatran, Dragonite, Tyranitar, Garchomp, Excadrill, Mawile, Bisharp, Gliscor, Pinsir, Landorus-T, Mandibuzz, Togekiss, Infernape, Donphan, Mamoswine, Volcarona.
Nosepass – The Great Wall
Role: Wall / Utility / Team Crippler
Nosepass (M) @ Eviolite
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Rock Tomb
- Thunder Wave
- Stealth Rock
- Pain Split
Description:
Being able to avoid OHKO’s from almost every Pokemon in OU in itself is an amazing feat, but being able to avoid 2HKO’s and 3HKO’s from a ton of Pokemon in OU is another feat entirely, and no-one can do it quite like Nosepass. Walling some of the most common threats in OU, Nosepass can easily set up Rocks and then proceed to play mind games. Abuse Rock Tomb with Thunder Wave and Pain Split, just watch here how well Nosepass can stall, outplay and troll even a Pokemon that should hard counter Nosepass.
Nosepass will always get rocks up. Even if there’s a critical hit, Nosepass was blessed with access to Sturdy as its ability. Only moves that flinch can prevent Nosepass from reaching its goal. It has insane Defense and decent Special Defense.
Specific OU Pokemon that Nosepass Walls / Potentially Cripples:
Talonflame, Mega Charizard X, Mega Charizard Y, Dragonite, Thundurus, Gyarados, Pinsir, Genesect, Cloyster, Volcarona.
Weavile – The Dark Blade
Role: Set Up Sweeper
Weavile (M) @ Life Orb
Shiny: Yes
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Hone Claws
- Night Slash
- Ice Shard
- Iron Tail
Description:
Swords Dance Weavile is overrated, expected and predictable. With access to Hone Claws and a Fairy and Rock destroyer like Iron Tail, why wouldn’t you run Hone Claws? Boost up and sweep, Life Orb will help you net some nice kills and your 383 speed is extremely unmatched thanks to your use of a Jolly nature. Weavile is more often than not your late game cleaner, and priority STAB Ice Shard will save you in more ways than one. I know it has for me.
Specific OU Pokemon that Weavile Counters / Checks:
Aegislash, Dragonite, Tyranitar, Garchomp, Thundurus, Gliscor, Pinsir, Gengar, Latios, Landorus-T, Espeon, Togekiss, Sylveon, Breloom and Gardevoir
Closing Notes:
This team requires a bit of prediction, but when utilized right it’s an absolute nightmare. Please note any suggestions / critique you have about this team in the comment section, such as possibly better Pokemon choices (not likely, I play with the Pokemon I like, not the Pokemon that are most viable, but if you want to suggest one that you think I might consider, go ahead), better move choices (more likely), or better item choices (more likely).
